I am a fisheries oceanographer, now retired and living in New Zealand. I used to lead the California Current Oceanic Fisheries Investigations program for NOAA in La Jolla, California. I remain active in science, working on a second edition of my book, developing scientific visualisations, and analysing data to address marine conservation issues. I lived in many countries growing up, including Taiwan, Canada, New Zealand, Kenya, Borneo, Malawi, New Guinea, Tanzania, Vietnam, and the U.S. I'm married to a Peruvian, and speak Spanish, and the R and NCL programming languages. I'm a keen sea kayaker, an working toward Predator Free New Zealand, and enjoy working our land in Huia to create a better habitat for wildlife, surrounded by the beautiful Waitakere Ranges Regional Park.
