I am a fisheries oceanographer, now retired and living in New Zealand. I led the NOAA California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigations program from 2007 to 2018 in La Jolla, California. Prior to that, I worked as a government research institutes and universities in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. Since retiring in 2018, I remain active in science, working on a second edition of my book, developing scientific visualisations, and analysing data to address marine conservation issues. I have recently developed a operational oceanography product called Fishing Maps designed to help recreational game fishers to located big game fish like tuna and marlin. I lived in many countries growing up, including Canada, New Zealand, Kenya, Borneo, Malawi, New Guinea, Tanzania, Vietnam, and the U.S. I'm married to a Peruvian, speak Spanish, as well as the R and Python programming languages. I'm a keen sea kayaker, am working toward Predator Free New Zealand, and enjoy developing our land in Huia to create a better habitat for wildlife, surrounded by the beautiful Waitakere Ranges Regional Park to the west of Auckland, New Zealand.
